Press conference industry data should tell you what each number actually counts. The published sources below describe registered publications, survey respondents and general event-planner expectations. None is an observed count of Indian press conferences, journalists invited or coverage earned.

Registered publications in India

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting table, sourced to the Press Registrar General of India lists 154,523 registered publications for 2024–25, including 22,759 dailies and 47,736 weeklies. The table lists 151,422 total registrations for 2023–24. A registration is not proof a title is currently active, the number of journalists employed, circulation, or the number available to attend an event.

Surveyed news-format choices

The Reuters Institute Digital News Report 2025 executive summary reports 65% of its respondents across surveyed markets consumed social-video news in 2025, up from 52% in 2020. These are self-reported news-consumption responses, not attendance at press conferences. The survey methodology warns that the India online sample represents younger English-speaking users rather than the whole national population. Do not apply the cross-market 65% to India, to journalists or to PRS events.

European venue-sourcing expectations

In the Cvent 2025 Planner Sourcing Report: Europe Edition press statement, 59% of respondents expected more onsite events in 2025 and 54% said they already used AI for venue sourcing. Censuswide surveyed over 600 UK and European event professionals in June–July 2024. These are planner responses and expectations, not audited 2025 outcomes, not Indian cost figures and not press-only data.

What would be needed for an original benchmark?

For a reproducible press-event cost index, gather dated, comparable venue and production quotes by city, room layout, duration, tax treatment and currency; explain refusals and price ranges. For a participation benchmark, obtain permission to analyse event-level invitation, RSVP, check-in and coverage records by sector and region, then define the denominator and missing-data treatment. Neither dataset is available here. See the cost worksheet for an individual brief, or return to the research hub.

Data and statistics FAQs

How many journalists attend press conferences in India?

These sources do not establish a national attendance figure. Registered publication totals are not journalist counts, invitations, RSVPs or event attendance.

Are the video-news percentages India-wide estimates?

No. Reuters Institute figures quoted here describe its surveyed markets, while its India online sample is not nationally representative.

Are the Cvent venue-sourcing numbers Indian benchmarks?

No. The cited survey covered more than 600 UK and European event professionals in June–July 2024 and asked about 2025 expectations, not Indian press conferences.

Does this page contain original PRS event statistics?

No. The values are attributed to their original publishers and labelled by year and population; PRS has not published an audited cross-client event dataset.
